"The mission
of a Toastmasters Club is to provide a mutually supportive and positive
learning environment in which every member has the opportunity to
develop communication and leadership skills, which in turn foster
self-confidence and personal growth".
SPEAK
At a Toastmasters meeting, everybody talks - that's why we are there!
You will improve just by speaking regularly. There are numerous
opportunities to speak each meeting, which helps to foster confidence.
LISTEN
As Toastmasters, we also learn to develop our listening skills. The
cornerstone of improvement is the evaluation process. Your evaluator
will listen, then point out your presentation's strengths and offer
suggestions for improving your next speech.
THINK
Another part of the Toastmasters learn-by-doing program is Table Topics.
This exercise requires us to organize an impromptu two-minute speech
based on a spontaneous topic. This develops our logical thinking and
organization skills.
LEAD
We can't learn to be a leader in a day; this takes practice. In
Toastmasters, you will develop leadership skills by
learning how to organize and conduct meetings. We also present the
opportunity to serve as an officer on the
club's executive committee.
